The British School in the Netherlands, founded in 1935, is an independent
co-educational day school, constituted as a legal association governed
by a Board of Governors and managed by a Principal.
The FOUNDATION SCHOOL is located in The Hague in refurbished accommodation,
for Nursery and Reception children aged 3-5 years.
JUNIOR SCHOOL: this new building (1997) occupies landscaped grounds,
providing a secure learning environment. The curriculum is based
on the English National Curriculum. Pupils sit a variety of tests
including UK Standard Tests at 7 and 11 years. There is a circular
drama studio, library, music rooms, specialist science and technology
laboratories and IT room. The well-equipped classrooms have their
own networked computers and printer.
SENIOR SCHOOL: Set within its own playing fields just north of
The Hague, the school is easily accessible by road and rail. Modern
facilities include sports fields and gymnasium, IT rooms networked
to all classrooms, modern science laboratories, libraries, music
rooms, food technology rooms, art/craft rooms, careers library,
technology workshops and a sixth form common room. Students follow
a broad general curriculum up to the age of 16 years, balancing
academic, practical and creative subjects and leading to the GCSE
examinations. Sixth Form pupils (16-18 years) follow a course to
GCE 'AS' and 'A' levels chosen from a range of subjects and supplemented
by a key skills and general studies programme, leading to worldwide
university entrance. An English as a Second Language (EAL) department
provides intensive support for non-English-speaking pupils throughout
the school. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities,
field trips for the senior school year group and visits to local
places of interest for younger pupils. A school bus service is available
offering transport to and from a wide area.
Admission is granted at any time in the school year following an
interview with the applicant and his/her parents and the evaluation
of a report from the previous school.
