The Regional International School (RIS) was established in 1965 to
serve the international community in and around Eindhoven. It is situated
in a modern building in the south-western part of Eindhoven, close
to the city's ring road. Facilities include 28 classrooms, a multi--purpose
hall, library, resource centre, gymnasium and sports field.
There are two language departments: Dutch and English. The curriculum
of the Dutch department is compatible with those applied in the
Netherlands. The curriculum of the English department is based on
the International Primary Curriculum. Integration between departments
takes place in the form of optional activities. All class teachers
are native speakers.
Classes are small and children are often taught individually or
in small groups. The children are placed into classes with pupils
of the same age. There are over 30 nationalities represented in
the school. Children whose mother tongue is not English are supported
by their own teacher and the ESL staff who work with small groups
helping them to develop their English. The English department has
a special educational needs co-ordinator and a curriculum co-ordinator.
The Regional International School (RIS) maintains a good relationship
with parents. There is frequent communication between all the bodies
forming the school community. Parents are represented in the school
council.
The Regional International School (RIS) accepts pupils who have
reached the eligible school-going age, regardless of their nationality,
background or religion.
