of an already existing Dutch state school - the Jeanne d'Arc College.
With modern facilities and catering to the international community
in the Euro-region Maastricht, ISM is subsidized by the Dutch Government
and the Foundation for International Education in the Euro-region
Maastricht.
International School Maastricht offers an international English-language
academic curriculum leading to IGCSE and IB. All staff are qualified
teachers, most with international experience. Many are native speakers
of English. Dutch studies and Dutch language courses promote integration
into the local community. The school has a School Counsellor, Learning
Support Teacher and runs the LAP programme for those students who
require support. Extra English language support is available in
Years 1-3 for those students who arrive with little or no English
through the Foundation Course. The Foundation Course students follow
an adapted timetable, integrating into the normal timetable when
appropriate.
The 190 students represent 38 nationalities. On leaving, most go
on to further education, either at home or in the Netherlands. The
IB allows students to apply for university admission worldwide.
The school has two careers counsellors
Excursions are made to cultural events at national and international
locations. Some cultural and sporting activities are integrated
with the Dutch school.
The International School Maastricht believes that extra-curricular
activities are an essential part of the learning process. Some of
the activities in which pupils can participate are: drama, music,
public speaking and writing competitions, Model United Nations,
language exchanges and mountain camp in the Alps.
The International School Maastricht is situated in a new building,
which it shares with a Dutch secondary school. The facilities available
to students include: science labs, fully equipped music and art
rooms, a computer lab, an IT equipped study centre, two gyms, one
with a climbing wall, and a canteen.
Children are accepted provided they are internationally mobile
and are able to follow the curriculum. Placement tests form part
of the admissions procedure.
